Book three of the series takes up the story of David’s ex, Oliver. He is a much more sympathetic character than he seemed in the previous books, as we get to see how repressed he is and how tortured his family relationships were and how they shaped his character. With a fried of a friend of David’s, Oliver discovers his suppressed sexual passions and in doing so gains insight into his character and what went wrong with David.
While not quite as arresting as the first book, this was much better than the second one for me, and a welcome return to form.
