Leonidas Piper watched from the surface of Jergan as the warship he was serving on with his best friend was blasted into rubble by John Blakely’s Pirate Fleet. That warship was all they had left after the Unity Government disbanded their mercenary legion. Now nothing remained of it but gas and debris in orbit above Jergan. Two years later fate stepped in again; Leonidas was on a commercial Starliner traveling to Kellinger when it was stopped and boarded by a crew of pirates led by John Blakely. Blakely murdered three passengers but failed to acquire the code to open the Starliner’s safe. He was forced to leave empty handed.
Leonidas is approached after the attack by a young woman offering to pay him to go after and kill Blakely for the murder of two of her family members, which is exactly what Leonidas was planning all along; he owed Blakely for Mark’s death.
However, things get complicated quickly when he learns the identity of this passenger, along with the contents of the wall safe. In no time at all, he and his benefactor are running for their lives and escape doesn’t look good.
A Pirate’s Tale takes place in the Filament Universe and it doesn’t take long to determine that knowing who the good and bad guys are is nearly impossible. The twists and turns will keep you guessing and leave you wondering if the only solution is retribution.

Why oh why m4b without chapters and not standard mp3. I just don’t understand. What am I missing?

i agree with Peter, why on earth would someone upload a seemingly interesting audio when most of us arn’t remotely interested in any other format but mp3. Lets face it, if it’s not mp3, most of us just move on, it’s like bloody RAR files. IT’S A BOOK, not sensitive code, or secret hacked files. IT’S A BOOK & if it’s not mp3, then shove it.

Hold on, sweetheart. Here is someone who went through the trouble of buying (or at least finding and ripping) something for himself, and giving you that one for free. He is even risking legal repercussions to do so. YOU dont get to complain about that.
Unless this upload is full of viruses, you are getting way more than you deserve.

m4b’s ..or A’s have chapter markers built right in, so when played on an appropriate device simply skipping ahead takes you to the next chapter. Also converting from Audibles .aax (audibles own aac/m4b setup) to .m4b takes all of 3secs to do since it’s done with loseless instead of having to re-encode (lossey) when making an mp3.

my dear disorganizer and audioguy, MOST of us don’t give a toss for m4b or A or loseless or lossey, or RAR, or any other format that requires us to put some work into to convert. ALL we want to do is see something we fancy, download it & pass it on. & as for criminal repercussions, shite! i have never heard of one case of anyone being prosecuted for downloading an audio book, films yes, but books, no. Most of the authors today are self published & i would imagine an awful lot of them are only too pleased to find that their books are becoming popular, & who knows, if their tales are of any quality, & what will that do? firstly it will gain them publicity, secondly it will encourage people to BUY their books & thirdly it will improve their bank balance. BUT, if it comes down in a format that MOST of us can’t, won’t or can’t be bothered with, then none of the above will occur. NO doubt some of you are going to be ripping into me for my comments, but if you do make sure it’s in mp3 format OR i won’t reply!!

m4b don’t have to have chapter markers, but they can just as mp3 can have chapters. The advantage of m4b is that most players will remember last play position which is not true for many players of mp3.

Peter not sure why you say the file doesn’t have chapters as it is does. I used MPC-HC under windows and it shows chapters. What player are you using?

Thanks for the share whackbag.
Disorganizer
Totally agree. You have to appreciate the sharer and figure out the other things on your own.

Totally with you guys. M4B(A)s are not all that rare and not that hard to convert. Most modern players should be able to play the files.

It would have been easier to use the free software available on the internet to convert the file to mp3 then it was to take the time to display your ungrateful attitude in your post. Do us all a favor and be quiet and move on. By the way, I use mp3 also and it’s no trouble to convert. So no, most of us don’t move on, we’re smart enough to convert.
Thank you Wackbag for your contribution.

Thx whackbag for this and every other ABs you have shared for nothing, szilgst, FOC. Free, etc only to have some whinging a##wipe to complain. He’s just another Effing moron that leechers more than they share.
Personally, I do all my uploads here in m4b or m4a when i buy an AB in aax format as AudioGuy pointed out, it takes 3 secs to convert aax to m4b lossless, why ruin it. Plenty of converters out there if you want to downgrade it. The only way i would upload mp3 is if i found it elsewhere and it wasn’t upped here yet. Why change format in that case.
@Peter @january10 go elsewhere and BUY your own, (I just wish i could ban you from leeching from my uploads), whackbag has uploaded tons of books and all in perfect quality, thx again.

M4B is the better format if your player can handle it. It’s an M4A with chapter markers and bookmarks added, basically. Sadly my Walkman can’t play them, but it’s trivial to convert.
Get fre:ac from https://www.freac.org/ for instance. Choose MP3 and your bitrate and it’ll do it in a few minutes.
If you use an Android device, plenty of Audiobook apps can play m4b.
Anyway, we have a software section in the forum here to discuss such general issues. Don’t bitch at the uploader for using a perfectly good format designed specifically for audiobooks, unlike MP3 which was designed for music.

jsmithers366 What do you use to convert aax to m4b?
The aax has DRM, right?
January 27th, 2017
@ Mybo, There’s a totally awesome, easy to use and FREE program called inaudible for ripping .ax and .axx (besides that, the encryption was broken like a year ago).
The program is so easy to use and you can find the links to it in the forum. The link changes as updates happen. The guy that made it is awesome and responds to issues in that thread in the forum. He’s been improving the app for almost 2 years now. I love and use it!

Dallis24,
Thanks I had looked for a conversion program before and hadn’t found this one. It looks good.
